An Ethiopian coffee and hair braiding afternoon to raise funds for the World Vision Tigray Crisis Appeal
Auckland
In order to raise awareness and support for the relief effort in Tigray, Ethiopia, I'll be getting my hair braided in Ethiopian style!
My friend Sara is from the Tigray region where war has broken out and famine is adding to crisis in the region. Her immediate family are all safe but her extended family's whereabouts is unknown. This is all too common for those with family in the region.
Sara has offered to braid my hair (and anyone else who would like a few braids, or a lot!), and I've suggested we take the opportunity to experience an Ethiopian afternoon tea, and hair braiding session - to raise funds to put towards World Vision's Tigray Crisis Appeal.
You can be involved:
- You're very welcome to come along to the afternoon tea where Sara and a few of her Ethiopian friends will be braiding hair and serving strong Ethiopian coffee and snacks in exchange for a koha to also put toward the World Vision appeal (UPDATE: due to recent COVID lockdown we won't be having this afternoon tea, but do let us know if you'd like to have some braids done or drink Ethiopian coffee another time and we'll try to make it happen!)
- Alternatively please consider by donating using this givealittle link - funds will then be directly passed on to World Vision's Tigray Crisis Appeal
I'm wanting to raise funds for urgent relief efforts in Sara's home community and region
All funds will be sent directly to the World Vision Tigray Crisis Appeal which is providing, food, water, healthcare and shelter to those in need in the Tigray region.
UPDATE 19 February 2021
Due to the recent level 3 lockdown and a hectic week working the front lines, we won't be hosting an afternoon tea tomorrow, however Karina will still be getting her hair braided! We will post photos of the progress!
Apologies if you were super keen to try Ethiopian coffee or to have some braids done - if you are still keen, let us know and we can try to make it happen another time :)
