Helping a paraplegic find quality of life and a house to live in.
New Plymouth, Taranaki
Hi, on April 2021 I fell 5 meters and severed my spinal cord rendering me a t8 complete paraplegic.I was 45 at the time, father of 2 but recently going through divorce due to mental health reasons before my injury.
Without any fixed abode or ability to have my own place of residence I was put in emergency housing. That was over 3 years ago and still trying to acquire suitable housing.
Before my injury I retrained to be a primary school teacher because of a previous surgery which damaged my tendons in my hand making it difficult to do physical work.
As a paraplegic and in a wheelchair as my form of mobility,it has made it hard to get back into any form of employment, so I have been on a benefit.
I suffer now from health problems which put me in hospital with severe pain, recently resulting in the removal of my gallbladder because of gangrene.I have a Inflammatory bowel disease which is injury related which makes life even more difficult.
I am a very active person but now my issues have made even more difficult to bring up a 10 year old, when I have him. My benefit does not support my disability and it's extra costs. I've been trying to start an online business to support my life but that has been financially difficult.
I love to do oil painting which a may be able to sell and help my cause.
I need help financially to try get into a housing arrangement that suits my disability. To financially provide quality of life and hopefully help others in my situation, to help pay it forward.
Everyday costs, health care, housing costs, parental costs. Financial support for starting my business and New employment. Being able to provide a better life for my son

Hi, and thank you for all your love, kindness and generous support.
My article was published today 17/10/2024 about my housing issues and the reality of the impacts of my injury and the availability of accessible houses in the government or professional sector.
This is my story and hopefully it can generate more awareness and gain momentum to me buying my own place and helping others out in the process.
Please visit and follow my Leg Up for Housing initiative to promote awareness around people with disability and financially helping those with health related impairments who struggle to help themselves.
All it takes is around 60 thousand people to donate $1 a week for 10 weeks.
It doesn't sound like much does it. $10 to help provide someone a home.
Yes it's a numbers game and it's about supporting something meaningful.
A venture that if it goes well, I can develop to help others and work towards everyone helping each other, raising awareness around those in need how find it hard to help themselves.
To advocate for those in disability, those with impairments, those with health related issues.
To help try and understand what it's like for people in certain situations. We all know someone struggling.
