Every parent's worst nightmare

Help the Shuker family cope with their son Hunter's tragic burn injury and the month's of rehabilitation ahead.

Lake Hāwea, Otago

Late in September Jimmy and Stacey Shuker experienced every parent’s worst nightmare. Their youngest son Hunter was involved in an accident and suffered burns to 60% of his body. He was rushed by helicopter from Lake Hawea to Christchurch Hospital where he spent time in ICU and is now in the Children’s High Care Unit.

The burns cover his thighs stomach chest arms hands and face. It is still early days. He is in significant pain and must endure dressing changes under anaesthesia.

Jimmy and Stacey have been told he will require extensive rehabilitation and support as he recovers over an extended period of time. This included treatment in Christchurch and may also include travel to Dunedin for further treatment, specialist physio & counselling sessions.

This kind of accident is life threatening and life changing. The Shuker family are hard workers who are never out for a handout. They are survivors, but in this case, they need some help. Anything you can contribute would be humbly accepted by the family to help assist with the many costs associated with this tragic accident.

Your kind donations would be most appreciated.

The family wish to express gratitude for any donation. They are clear any unused funds will be gifted back to those who helped during this frightening time. This includes the local ambulance service, air ambulance service and Ronald McDonald House.

I am a lifetime family friend of the Shuker's who have always pride themselves in looking after their own needs. Let's now support them in their time of need.

Use of funds

These funds are to help the family with costs associated with loss of income, repeat travel to Christchurch/Dunedin, accommodation, food and necessities. This is a long road for the family with many medical appointments in the foreseeable future.
