Raising money to build more class rooms for a school providing free education to children living in a slum area of Bhaktapur, Nepal.

Nationwide

If you ever fly into Kathmandu airport, look out of the right hand side of the plane as you come in to land. If it is a clear day, then you will will be able to see a little slum area and just behind it Deeya Shree Primary School. The school provides free education to the children who live in this area currently from Year 1 to Year 6. However, in order to provide these children with further free education beyond the Year 6 level, the school needs to expand and this requires more classrooms to be built. As such, I am raising funds for the school to help finance the building project which is currently underway.

The school is run by Keshab and Manojs of the Nepal Volunteers Council. The school’s full name is Deeya Shree English Boarding School - but this is a misnomer as there are no boarding students (the name simply means they have permission from the government to one day house students if they ever have the capacity to do so). I have had the pleasure of working with Keshab and Manojs at the school twice; once in 2014 and again in 2018. I can honestly say that they are two of the most honest, generous, altruistic and kind hearted people you could ever wish to meet. They do a fantastic job of educating the children in difficult circumstances and the well being of the students is always first and foremost in their minds.

It is hoped that enough money can be raised to construct six new classrooms and develop the existing parts of the school. If you would like to contribute to this cause and make a real difference to the lives of the children in this very impoverished area, then your help would be extremely welcome. Thank you.

I used to work as a maths teacher at the school. In December of 2018 they reached out to me to help them raise funds to develop the school.

Use of funds

All funds raised will go directly to towards the cost of building an additional 6 classrooms. Any surplus will go towards developing the existing parts of the school, e.g. by providing electric lighting, new school books, computers etc...
