Needing help to get our mum who has just been diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer.

Auckland

When growing up, you think nothing can or will happen to your parents, you think there invincible, strong, they will live till there 101, then your world comes to a crashing halt when you find out one of your parents is sick. And what makes it worse is there a plane ride away.

This is where I’m calling on anyone and everyone.

We need help, so my parents live in Australia, they have been there 7 years and they love it. They moved over there for my mums health, it was alot warmer for her due to having arthritis and chronic pain syndrome. Everything was going great, till my mum needed her gorebladder out, the doctor said she may get phantom pains afterwards as some patients can get that, so she got it removed but months later the pain was still there, she went back to the doc and they thought that some gorstones had escaped into her pancreas, so the pain continued. Then last week she fainted, the pain got so bad she was taken to hospital via Ambo, she was then flown to a bigger hospital so more tests could be done, they did a ct scan and no stones showed up, so they did the camera down her throat and in that search they found she has stomach cancer, the tumour is fist size and in the stomach lining. This is news that no one expected, seeing our mum break down and tell us the news thru facetime was the worse news any parent could tell there children.

I know this is alot to ask of people who don’t know me or my sister or our mum, but without help we just can’t get there. I’ve had to dip into my savings just to see us through this current lockdown, I have a little left but it’s not enough to cover flights cost of MIQ in Aus & when we return home, a rental car as my parents live 3 & 1/2hrs out of Port Headland and naturally my Dad can’t leave mum’s side, not even to pick up his daughters. We’re budgeting for MIQ stay when we return home as we haven’t received confirmation that we can isolate at home on return to NZ.

SO essentially what we’re asking for is help to be by our parents side and to care for mum pre and post op, to give dad piece of mind and reassurance that he can go to work and know mum is in good hands. Our dad is the sole provider for him and mum so his time at home to care for her is limited to what little annual leave he has left.

if you could spare $1 or $2 or more.... we don’t want to go through what some families have during the lockdown because I wouldn’t wish that pm anyone . The biggest thing mum and dad are missing in Aus is family support.

If we raise more then what is needed the rest will be given to my parents to use while our mum is recovering or going thru cemo.

But we do need to get there ASAP.

We are doing this to get our mum, she is our world and has been almost 4 years since we last saw her.

Use of funds

Flights, miq in Australia and New Zealand, car rental, and if anything is left it will go to our parents to help while she is recovering. If flights or miq aren't available or we aren't allowed in this money will be kept till we can get there
