Family support needed during kidney transplant of 16 year old..

$2,470 donated
Given by 26 generous donors in 4 weeks

Funds to help family travel from North island to south island to support during kidney tranplant.

Christchurch, Canterbury

My son has been battling a serious rare kidney disease called FSGS Nephrotic syndrome for about 3.5 years now. He has been on pd dialysis two years and has just moved to acute hemodialysis a week ago.. he has now been given a transplant date finally. 26th September I his mother have done all the required testing to he his live kidney donar. For this to happen we need family from the north island to ravel down support us through this time as we will both be having major surgery. This will possibly bring alot of financial stress to family as they will need to take two weeks plus weeks off from both their jobs..we require two support people.. travel down, fuel and food to feed our support people is important. Please consider donating..it be very appreciated by us and family 👪

Gearing up for a busy time ahead 30 days from transplant.   26 August 2022

Thank you so much for all the donations so far..we have 30 days to go till Reign has his transplant..he has nearly been on acute hemodialysis 3 weeks and is feeling alot better. Don't think we realised how unwell he was actually starting to feel when he was on peritoneal dialysis. We are about to enter the business end of the transplant process with bloods tests and appointments next week.

.The big ones are repeat cross matching blood next week between donar and recipients. This will determine if transplant still goes ahead i think..not entirely sure how this works to be honest. They take lots of blood for this as we have had them last year. They get repeated again to just make sure nothing has changed. Next week i have three appointments as his donar. Frstly the surgeon who will remove my kidney and the anesthetist and a specialist nurse. Reign will just continue on hos dialysis. But at three same.time they are tweaking stuff with everything to make sure he in best health for his transplant. Things like being anemic (low in iron)are important things they don't want before surgery..The transplant team and his nephrologist are working hard to make sure all the ducks line up. Pre transplant he will also have some important processes..Starting with.Plasmapheresis and retuximad. One will hopefully stop the FSGS for coming back (50/50 chance), and they other will help stop the donar kidney from rejecting. Its a long road ahead still but we are both prepared mentally for all this

Thank you again to each person that has donated 😊

Kelly

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
