Help a Family in need

A family of 6 has lived in declining sickness for the last 2.5 years only to find out that their rental was a former Clandestine Meth Lab.

Bay of Plenty

We met the Paul family during the hustle and bustle of Christmas, their worries were greater than the holiday season. Ngere had concerns about the health and well being of her family. As they had experienced unexplained health concerns including respiratory problems and skin issues.

MethSafe promptly undertook a Meth screening sample to address the concerns that the property may still be contaminated. The test reflected a positive result – not what anyone in this situation wanted to hear.

What went wrong that resulted in a family being exposed to such contamination?

A Meth lab had been uncovered during a police bust in 2012-2013. Manufacturing methamphetamine in a property is very toxic to the occupants. During the “cook” poisons are released into the property polluting the air and surfaces throughout the dwelling causing a range of health issues. However with assurances from the owner/landlord the property had been professionally cleaned and was now safe the family of 6 signed the rental agreement in October 2012 and moved in to a rental.

During MethSafe’s investigation it was found the property had never been decontaminated and the results from a Detailed Investigation had shown the property was still highly polluted. Soil samples were also taken concluding chemicals had been disposed of directly onto the backyard.

The property has been deemed unsafe to reside in by the Ministry of Health Guidelines as well as the Tauranga council.

The Paul Family have no choice but to vacate the property and leave all their possessions behind. A household worth of contents are to be disposed of at no fault of the Family. Not only has the health of family been effected by this situation but now their livelihood.

This is why we have started a Give A Little Page to help fundraise to replace the essentials required for a busy family of 6; Mum, Dad, three young children and Grandfather. We hope we can raise enough to replace the contents and maybe a little more to give the Family a fresh start and a better 2016.

We Thank everyone for their generosity and kind messages.

MethSafe will provide Free testing for the new rental property to ensure the same mistake is not made twice.
