The story of two Kramers --- Kade and Arlow
December 22,I ( Lars ) had just started my 1.5 week holiday ( only hoilday per year as self employed ) and took the 3 boys over to castlepoint for their holiday.
Jody who was 5 and a half months pregnant at the time was due to come out the next day after finishing up her working week for the christmas weekend and due to return back to work on the monday.
the next morning, Jody woke up and begun her day as normal, after sitting down with her breakfast coffee she noticed alot of bleeding, and was taken via ambulance into wellington hospital.
There the nurses found it hard to find a heartbeat, then found a 60bpm --- rushed off to surgery she went - I received a text from Jody saying having c section-come to hosp .
An hour later, I received a phone call and was told to get to the hospital as quick as I can as there's an emergency and I needed to be there.
I left my boys in the care of my parents and headed to the hospital, not hearing from anyone for the first hour drive.
After that, I got a phone call from my auntie who managed to get to the hospital so Jody had a familiar face, telling me to pull over as the Dr. needed to ring me. So I did.
The Dr. rung informing me that my wife had suffered somthing called placenta abruption where the placenta tears away from the uterus walls losing around 2.5+ L blood..
She said My wife was now stable, and that I am the proud father of a gorgeous little boy, although he wasnt doing to well, 1.192kg, 11 weeks early , with a stage 3 brain bleed. Breathing wasnt good etc and that he was in the wellington neonatal ICU on breathing machines,
We spent christmas away from our family and in the wellington hospital the day after boxing day,
My father was also admitted into hospital ( along with my mother for his support ) directly above us as his health wasnt looking very good.
My uncle, sister and her boyfriend stepped up and watched the boys an extra few days until we were released.
Arlow has his Opa's strength and powered on improving each day.
Jody and myself were released new years eve day and in the short week stay, we got behind in alot of our bills due to arriving at hospital with nothing but our keys - we had to by emergency clothes, food, petrol, .
Arlow Alexander Kramer, Is now doing well, he is 1.93kg and 6 weeks old and transfered to an open top incubator in the ICU,
He had a blood transfusion 2 days ago.
And he is now partially breathing on his own with opti highlow when needed
1 week ago, we found out on a Friday that we needed to fly up to Auckland with our eldest boy the next day as he had a heart appointment. so we flew up, and flew back the afternoon after his appointment.
They told us it would be a few months away before anything was to happen.
Kade suffers from 3 holes in his heart and a valve missing. -the condition is called Complete Atrioventricular Canal Defect - it is very rare in normal DNA (it is commonly linked with Down Syndrome - which Kade does not have)
He had his first open heart surgery just after he turned 3. And is now due for his second in hopes that this will get him to grow to an old man :)
We found out yesterday, that we have 2 weeks notice as he needs is surgery rather quickly.
Kade and his mother get to fly up for free, Where I have to drive up, with our other boys, take 2-3 weeks off work, cover mortgage bills buy our groceries, etc while we are up there and saving this amount in 2 weeks is impossible because we are already roughly 2.5-3K behind.
Were hoping Arlow gets discharged before we fly up to auckland for this major surgery, if not, we are trying to get him transferred to auckland starship via life flight while we are admitted there.
Im involved because I am the father of recently 4 boys. Until Arlow was born, we only had 1 son with a problem which we were working with.
All we ever asked was our babies with each other to be healthy.
Losing an income when arlow was born has drastically impacted our day to day living.
Any funds will be used to help cover travel costs, covering mortgage, bills, food, some bed games for kade for after his operation.
Above and beyond. 8 February 2017
