Fast track to remission for Sarah Parkar

My name is Sarah Parkar (George). I am a nurse, a wife, and a mother to three beautiful children.

Recently, I was diagnosed with AL Amyloidosis, a rare and life-threatening disease that requires urgent treatment. AL amyloidosis is when abnormal cells from the bone marrow clump together, and imbed in your vital organs, causing multi organ damage/failure.

Fast and effective treatment can stop the disease from progressing and give me the chance of remission. Unfortunately, the chemotherapy treatment funded in New Zealand is years behind what is available in other countries. Daratumumab is used widely and when added to my chemotherapy, would significantly improve my chances of achieving a deep, lasting remission. Unfortunately, this is not currently funded in New Zealand.

The full 18-month course of Daratumumab costs more than NZ$350,000, far beyond what our family can afford. We are exploring options to access the medication overseas, where it is available at a lower cost. Even funding the first year of treatment would make a significant difference.

Asking for help is incredibly difficult, but every donation, will go directly towards giving me the best possible chance to fight this disease and be here for my husband and our three children.
