Fathers and Sons Documentary - The story of Rites of Passage in NZ

$290 donated
Given by 6 generous donors in around 10 months

'Fathers and Sons' is a documentary that shares a personal journey into rites of passage and fatherhood.

Nationwide

Having completed filming we are in the rough cut phase, editing 'Fathers and Sons' into a feature-length film to premiere as part of DocEdge festival in 2022. The story captures the birth of a movement as we join Jim and Jay Horton in an intimate portrait of life and legacy. With over 20+ years of interviews and footage, 'Fathers and Sons' is going to be a notable piece of history within the rites of passage movement.

This film is for families, fathers, sons, mothers for people interested in how to support young people. It explores the transition between childhood to adulthood and sets to breed a new generation of men who are strong enough to speak of their emotions and vulnerabilities and be the best men they can be.

Film-maker Jay teamed up with Nexus Point Pictures in 2020, a company which prides itself on being "where passion and purpose collide." The filming process has been completed and we're working our way through the lengthy rough-cut process but we need your support. Your donations will go towards an 8-week edit process and helping to develop our impact strategy - to make sure we can get this story touching as many lives as possible.

Use of funds

What you donate will go towards the post-production and distribution of this film. As a result, we will bring awareness to the relationship between fathers and sons and how people can create conscious rites of passage in the modern world.

Fathers and Sons: The Road to Completion  18 October 2021

This page originally closed in early October, however, we have decided to keep it open until the completion of the film.

We have finished the first full rough cut of the film and we are now moving on to finalizing the story; with our goal to have it done to submit to film festivals in December. Your support has been amazing so far, and we decided that having the page resume would give everyone the opportunity to support us and the rites of passage movement.
