To achieve the high standard of performance needed to grow our numbers and continue being a prize winning chorus, Faultline needs your help!
Wellington
Faultline Chorus (which began its life in 1990) is Lower Hutt (New Zealand) based national and international award winning women’s barbershop chorus made up of women who have a huge amount of fun singing four part unaccompanied barbershop harmony.
The incredibly rewarding yet challenging art form of Barbershop grabs you from the first moment you enter a rehearsal room or see a chorus perform. Audiences often describe the 'other worldly' overtones they hear and the sense of excitement that's created by a chorus ringing perfectly tuned barbershop chords!
Faultline is an audition-only chorus. We currently have around 48 members, and compete in the medium-sized chorus category in Sweet Adelines International (SAI) national and international contests. We rehearse once a week for 3 hours, and hold frequent weekend coaching events, singouts and concerts.
Each member of Faultline feels she is joining a close fellowship of women who are committed to supporting one another and developing their potential as Barbershoppers. Not only that, but members of Sweet Adelines all round the world are joined by the shared bond created by their love of Barbershop, and provide each other with both financial and non-financial support when needed.
Some notable activities and achievements of Faultline in recent years include:
* Winner of First prize for 'Best overall medium-sized chorus in New Zealand', and second best chorus overall at the national SAI Barbershop Convention 2015 held in Auckland in May 2015. Faultline achieved an unprecedented score of 595 -only 5 points short of 'Master Director' status for our director. Of the 38 chorus members competing, 20 had been members for less than a year!;
* Organising and staging a very well attended 25th Anniversary Concert in Lower Hutt in September 2015 which included both current and former members from around New Zealand;
* Winner of a Wellington regional arts achievement award presented by the mayor of Lower Hutt (2014);
* We competed at the SAI Internationals in Seattle in 2010;
* Every year in the lead-up to Christmas we do a series of "singouts" in malls and other public places, where we sing a wide variety of Christmas songs. We're also available for appearances on request.
To achieve the high standard of performance needed to grow our numbers and continue being a prize winning chorus, Faultline needs to constantly be in 'fundraising mode'. Not all our financial needs can be met purely from members' annual subscriptions. Funds are needed on an ongoing basis for:
(1) Bringing top barbershop coaches out to New Zealand from the US or other places to coach us in the lead-up to competitions;
(2) Costumes and staging;
(3) Equipment such as risers;
(4) Helping members with the cost of attending coaching and training events out of Wellington, and attending competitions.
Our next exciting objective is to compete in the National Barbershop Convention in Wellington in April 2016 -building on the excellent result we achieved earlier this year in Auckland. For this to happen we need funds to help pay our international coaches who will help us find our winning form!
You can be sure that by donating to us, your money will be put to very good use in helping us with these ongoing needs and our specific goal of competing at Nationals next year.
We thank you very sincerely for your generosity, and hope you can be part of our audience at one of our events.
