Raising Funds So Mike Merrett Can Afford Unfunded Lifesaving Cancer Treatment
Featherston, Wellington
If you live in or around Featherston and the Wairarapa and have needed help, chances are Mike has been there for you. Now we need you to be there for him.
It's a testament to how much Mike has only ever wanted to give back to the community that it took his third go around getting cancer for him to ask others for help. Mike is a single dad raising an amazing daughter Lily, while volunteering for the Featherston Fire Brigade, as well as providing training to local police.
He's beaten cancer before, but this time he needs help, your help. To be specific, the treatment Mike needs to beat his bowel cancer, that has now spread to his liver, is unfortunately only partially funded by Pharmac.
Mike needs at least seven cycles of treatment of bevacizumab, and only cycles 1 & 2, and part of cycle 3 are funded. Cycles 4 to 6 are not funded, so we are asking for help to get Mike across the line and beat cancer once again.
Everyone is doing it tough, especially during times like these, but some of us are definitely doing it tougher than others, so any small amount of kindness you can show will be greatly appreciated by Mike and his family.
xx
Mike, Lily, and the whole Merrett Family.
NB: Due to your overwhelming kindness we have already exceeded our goal in less than a day! Any additonal funds will therefore go towards ongoing treatment for Mike, and any excess will go towards bowel cancer research.
Mike is a trusted friend and fellow firefighter.
Three rounds of treatment of bevacizumab at a cost of approximately $3,600 each.
