The MTG Foundation is on a mission to protect over 90,000 regional treasures, all under the roof of the new Hawke's Bay Research & Archive Centre in Hastings. From priceless artifacts to precious taonga, our collection tells the story of Hawke's Bay, dating back to the first human occupation of Aotearoa. Now, we need your help to safeguard these treasures for future generations.

This iconic new building, located opposite New World on Hastings Street North, will serve as a fortress against earthquakes, fire, floods, and the ravages of time. The structure will be adorned with magnificent 6-meter-high aluminum ‘huia feathers,’ each a symbol of protection and gratitude.

Every contribution counts! Community donations will collectively form feathers representing the people of Hawke's Bay. Together, we can achieve this vision and ensure the safe preservation of our region’s cultural heritage.

The MTG Foundation is the charitable arm of the Hawke's Bay Museums Trust - the guardians of 90,000+ treasures and taonga held in the Hawke's Bay collection on behalf of the people of the region and displayed at MTG in Napier.
