Feathers for Hawke's Bay: Protecting Our Region's Treasures for Generations to come

The MTG Foundation is on a mission to protect over 90,000 regional treasures, all under the roof of the new Hawke's Bay Research & Archive Centre in Hastings. From priceless artifacts to precious taonga, our collection tells the story of Hawke's Bay, dating back to the first human occupation of Aotearoa. Now, we need your help to safeguard these treasures for future generations.

This iconic new building, located opposite New World on Hastings Street North, will serve as a fortress against earthquakes, fire, floods, and the ravages of time. The structure will be adorned with magnificent 6-meter-high aluminum ‘huia feathers,’ each a symbol of protection and gratitude. For a donation of $10,000 (tax deductible) you can name your own feather—whether it’s a tribute from individuals, families, community groups, or companies. These laser engraved feathers will stand as a permanent testament to your generosity.

But every contribution counts! Smaller donations will collectively form feathers representing the people of Hawke's Bay, with a goal of creating at least 10 community feathers. Together, we can achieve this vision and ensure the safe preservation of our region’s cultural heritage.
