Feilding Health Care Project

The Manawatu District Council decided that The Manawatu Community Trust would be the ideal organisation to facilitate the process of developing such a centre. The Trust has proven experience in providing quallity accommodation and wellbeing services for Feilding and districts residents.

The trust has led negotiations over the last 5 years with stakeholders and have reached agreement with the various parties.

1. MidCentral District Health Board for the purchase of existing buildings and the lease of the land on Duke Street, formerly Feilding Maternity Hospital and Clevely Aged Care.

2. Manawatu District Council for the provision of a portion of the commercial finance required.

3. The design team of Dalgleish Architects who have developed and finalised an approved design for the complex.

4. Resource consent has been granted for the facility.

5. Colspec Construction was chosen as the preferred building contractor and has assisted with the design of the facility.

Manawatu Community Trust is nearing the end of negotiations with Feilding Health Care Partners Ltd to take on the head lease of the facility. This includes all of the current General Practitioners in Feilding. They in turn will sublease space to a range of health professionals providing primary health care such as Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, nursing and mental health services, Iwi health and midwifery.

It is now time to focus on the need for community assistance with this project. The Trust needs additional funding of $1.5 million to complete the project. We have sourced $1 million from various funders and now require an additional $500,000 from community donations.

This is a one-time opportunity for the community to seize this chance to establish a community owned health care facility that will not only provide Feilding with an increased range of services but will also future-proof the entire region’s healthcare.
