Fight With Jackson

  • Bad news

      12 April 2018

    Hi everyone

Unfortunately we received some devastating news yesterday - Jacksons cancer has spread 😞

Jackson had CT and MRI scans today. We were called up to see his Oncologist straight after his MRI which left us a bit anxious as usually wouldn’t hear results for a day or two.

Unfortunately the oncologist said the cancer has spread to around 20 spots.

Spots in his pelvis, spine and 1 in his lung.

With so many new spots and having had chemo and radiation already with this not working - this means that now they have no curative options as the cancer is showing to be chemo resistant and would only be palliative to help relieve symptoms and pain.

Surgery is not an option as the spots are all different places.

May talk with radiation to see if they can help

But this would be purely to relive pain no cure.

Of course we are just devastated and finding this hard to comprehend. Think we are still all in a bit of shock.

We will have the PET Scan on Friday and then meet again with the oncologist next Wednesday along with the palliative care team.

We will discuss the options further.

We have discussed moving back to Christchurch to be closer to family and friends so this is likely.

Over the last 18 months I have spent hours (2/3) each night researching Ewing’s Sarcoma - treatments not only in NZ but overseas.

I am aware of every single trial anywhere in the world.

    Unfortunately Ewing’s is a beast!

The decisions we need to make next week in regards to further treatment again knowing these are not treatments that will cure the cancer are going to be hard

But they will be informed decisions that we have researched and discussed as a family and overall decisions that Jackson has the most say in.

We need to respect these decisions.

As our oncologist said everyday there are brave and intelligent people who decide to continue chemo and brave and intelligent people who decide to stop treatment and enjoy the time - both are right for them!

We will continue to keep you all up to date with how things are going.

    Love to you all ❤️❤️

      Hello Mrs. Ching,

Sorry to contact you through a comment, I wasn’t sure if there was another way. I am sorry that this has happened to Jackson, however; I believe we should not lose hope! I was in Jackson’s class in Year 9 and 10 and knew him well, his friends and I really miss him and would like to try and help. My mum’s an NLP Practitioner, which is a field of work related to the brain and how it affects the body. NLP is mainly used to solve conflicts and such, but my mum told me there has been cases before where NLP cured cancer and relieved pain completely. I myself don’t know much about it, but if you’re interested in trying it for Jackson, my mum will definitely be willing to help. If you would like to discuss more about it, you can contact me at 0210421569 or my email 117377@cloud.rangitoto.school.nz

I hope Jackson gets better soon and he can come to school again ❤️

  • Thank you ❤️❤️

    Hi everyone

First I want to take this time to THANK everyone for all your amazing generosity ❤️❤️❤️❤️

We have been overwhelmed with the generous donations to this give a little page, along with amazing gifts of ready made meals, gifts for Jackson to pass the time, visits from friends and family and the most special thing of all is all the amazing messsges of support we have received.

We are truly blessed to have you all in our lives ❤️❤️ THANK YOU we love you all ❤️❤️

We have been amazed not only by the support from our friends and family but also from people who don't know us, never met us or just know of us through friends or family ❤️❤️ Thank you all so much xxx

We had a quiet weekend just trying to get our heads round everything still.

It has been daunting and scary but we know we have so much love around us xx

It took a day or two of trying to get the meds right for Jackson to alleviate the pain but not make him super drowsy and out of it (which he was for a day)

We now have those sorted so as Jacksons not getting much pain and also he's alert and able to concentrate and not just sleeping.

Yesterday Jackson had a new port inserted. They have put this in the same side as the previous one. It was a little tender and sore which is to be expected.

Today we arrived at Starship bright and early for Jackson to start his first Chemo cycle.

We should be getting started in the next 30 mins and should be around 5/6 hrs in total including pre and post fluid hydration.

Hopefully today we should also get a visit from the Radiation Oncologist to discuss if radiation is an option, and hopefully also get a date for the PET CT Scan.

Thank you all again ❤️❤️ words can't express how thankful and grateful we are for all your support

    ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
