I am part of a volunteer team travelling to Fiji in January to provide health services and a clean water supply for a rural village.

I have just finished my 3rd year of medical school in Dunedin, and I am travelling to Fiji for 2 weeks in January to volunteer for the Fiji Village Project. This is something I’m very excited to be involved with because it offers real and practical help to small communities, and a unique learning opportunity for me as a student.
The Fiji Village Project is a student-based public health initiative, established in 2008 by medical students from NZ, Australia and Fiji. Its goals are to improve the health of village communities, expose students to clinical skills and health care in Fijian villages and hospitals, and to build ties with our South Pacific Neighbours.
Each year a Fijian Village is selected based on access to clean water, and money is raised to purchase and install rain water tanks and conduct basic health screening.
There are several parts to this project: building water tanks to provide clean water to locals, basic health & dental screening, improving health awareness in the community, and being on rotation in Suva's Colonial War Memorial Hospital.
Further information about the project can be found here: https://fijivillageproject.wixsite.com/international
As a volunteer on the project, I am raising money towards resources needed for basic health checks, improving health awareness and building a clean water supply.
100% of funds received go towards the purchase and installation of rainwater tanks, and supplies to conduct basic health screening.
