Before Christmas Fiona had a dreadful accident. An accident that could happen to any of us. She has been left with a severe brain injury.
Auckland
Our wonderful sister Fiona really needs help. She has 2 gorgeous daughters who are just 11 and 13 and they need their mum to come home.
A few weeks before Christmas Fiona fell down a flight of stairs - 19 hard wooden stairs. She lay alone and unconscious for nearly a day.
At first the Dr’s said she wouldn’t survive.
But she did.
She fought very very hard and endured two operations on her brain, pneumonia, blood clots and a broken collarbone.
Fiona has a severe and traumatic brain injury.
But she is recovering. She has learnt to swallow, talk and walk again. Every day she continues to show us what a remarkable person she is. Her strength and determination are incredible.
Friends, colleagues and family are doing everything they can to support Fiona’s rehabilitation.
But there are many challenges ahead.
We do not know when Fiona will be able to return work.
Her financial resources are limited and the mortgage needs to be paid.
Fiona is a loving mother, who is fighting so hard to return to her life and most importantly to her two daughters Olivia and Estella.
If you can, please help Fiona continue her fight, so that she can return to her home, to her daughters and reach her full potential.
Thank you.
Fiona is my kind, beautiful and loving big sister. She has always been there for me. Now it's my turn to help this wonderful woman back on her feet and to reach her full potential.
Christmas is coming.... 26 October 2016
Wow - I can't quite believe it - only 8 weeks until Santa arrives......
Excitement is growing in our house. But I cant help and think about last Christmas, Fiona was in intensive care and not expected to survive. We were told it would be a miracle if she did.
Well, we had our miracle and for this I am so very thankful.
But recovery from this kind of severe brain injury is a long, long process.
Recently, and reluctantly,Fiona had to come back to NZ. The Australian system refused to support her - a tax paying kiwi doesn't count for much.Heartbreaking. Fiona had to leave her beloved daughters behind in Australia. All of you can understand how hard this is.
Fiona is amazing and I love her. She is doing everything she can to help herself but she needs support to continue her journey. If you can, please help Fiona and give a donation today.
Recently, I dropped Fiona at her friend's house. When Fiona got out of the car Eva, my four year old said 'please look after Aunty Fiona, she isn't well - give her cuddles'.
If you can please help Eva and I give Fiona a cuddle, message of support or donation so she can continue her journey.
With grateful thanks.
