The Delaware Bay Fishing boat ramp is defined by NCC as located at Maori Pa Road Nelson and we need you to help keep this boat ramp open.
Nelson / Tasman
The Delaware bay Maori Pa road boat ramp has been used for over 80 years to launch and recover fishing boats. The Nelson city council promised in 2016 to keep the boat ramp open and agreed that all parties defined a corridor to ensure minimum impact on the estuary.
The Nelson City Council have recently produced an expensive flyer and deliberately failed to consult the public or the working group of 2 years which spent many hours formulating a workable solution.
Although the launching and retrieval of boats at the boat ramp is permitted in the NRMP- Nelson Resource Management Plan under CMr.33.1 . The NCC have failed in their promise to define it as a boat ramp.
The permitted wording under the Coastal Marine Rule : CMr.33.1 : Driving vehicles on, and disturbance of the foreshore or seabed by vehicles, is permitted if the activity is associated with the launching or retrieving of recreational or commercial vessels at launching ramps. It can't be much clearer than that!.
It is important for all New Zealanders to have unrestricted access to the foreshore and seabed for many activities including fishing.
We are looking for financial support to help protect our communities ocean going activities.
