Flat Man & Kelly from SmileDial are doing it again, another EPIC event to raise awareness of their individual work in the community.
Nationwide
On August the first Flat Man and Kelly will leave Stewart island and travel to Cape Reinga. $5 a day budget, no accommodation booked and car rides limited to 20kms will make this a long and difficult journey.
SmileDial provides support to families who are raising children with special needs or in need of ongoing medical care. SmileDial first started as a support group where caregivers could come together to support each other, vent frustrations and share milestones together.
We have since grown to having almost 1000 members in our support group, and even more registered with us. We now host coffee groups around the country, provide much needed medical and therapy equipment to families, provide advocacy for families, and we have helped make changes in the community to improve accessibility for our members.
Most importantly, we provide mental and emotional support through mental health referrals, by helping our member access councilors and other mental health workers.
SmileDial has been running for 7 years, and we are one of the few charities in New Zealand where 100% of donations that we receive go to the families we support. This includes money raised through our Givealittle pages.
Update for 15/05/2014 15 May 2014
Welcome back to the Flat Man and SmileDial Givealittle page, it has been almost a year since our last EPIC event. Flat Man and Kelly from the charity SmileDial are doing it again, another EPIC event to raise awareness of our individual and combined work in the communities of New Zealand. Last year we lived in a cage for a week, this year we are hitting the road on a huge all New Zealand journey. We will travel from the very bottom to the very top of New Zealand, but wait we need to make this difficult. Here are the rules.., We have a $5 a day each budget for food etc, we will stay with strangers who can offer us a bed and food (hopefully a shower), we can hitch hike but each ride is a maximum of 20kms. Why?, because we believe if you are going to part with yor hard earned cash we need to work for it and show our commitment to our causes. For more up to date information on our walk, information about our work in the community, offers of accommodation or to track our progress please visit our Facebook page.
