Support Awhi's mission to provide nurturing childminding services, fostering connections and respite for caregivers when they need support.
New Plymouth, Taranaki
At Awhi, we create a nurturing environment where tamariki/children can thrive, enveloped in peace and warmth while their caregivers tend to their own well-being. For many caregivers, entrusting their child to another's care is a monumental step, one filled with apprehension and uncertainty. That's why being close and accessible is vital.
Brye, once an early childhood educator who often reassured parents with a casual "just leave your child, they'll be fine," found herself stunned when faced with the reality of leaving her own child in someone else's care. Awhi became her sanctuary, a place where she could acclimate herself to the surroundings while witnessing firsthand the magic unfold between her son and our dedicated volunteer, Willow. With each passing moment, trust blossomed, and Brye felt empowered to step away, secure in the knowledge that she could check in whenever necessary.
The transformation she witnessed in her son was nothing short of remarkable—his positive response to the environment, his newfound bond with Willow, and the sheer joy of their reunion after Brye had cherished moments to herself. It's stories like Brye's that remind us of the profound impact Awhi has on both tamariki and caregivers alike, fostering connections, and providing much-needed respite in our busy lives.
You can help ensure more moments of joy, trust, and connection by supporting Awhi today.
We enhance community well-being by supporting caregivers and connecting them with service providers. Our programmes offer support, connection, and growth opportunities, creating a nurturing parenting village to raise our children.
Relying heavily on volunteers to keep awhi functioning is a challenge. Our volunteers need to work with structure, and consistency and rely on a paid, ECE trained, kaiako to lead this initiative. Help us to fund this role, and to look after our volunteers.

We’re excited to share the continued success of our Awhi programme, which has become a lifeline for māmā and primary caregivers. Thanks to the Tindall Foundation’s support (https://tindall.org.nz/) we’ve moved into a new space, allowing us to continue to offer our opportunity for care and connection.
While we have funding for this term, we rely on your generosity to keep the Awhi programme running beyond this year. Without your help, we couldn’t provide the safe, nurturing environment that so many caregivers depend on.
One mum shared, “It’s a beautiful place for women, but when you are a foreigner with no family or friends, this place can make a big difference in your life. The connections among women here are remarkable.” - Valentina
Awhi is not just about childcare; it empowers caregivers. “Flourish has made me stronger. I refer back to things I’ve learned here daily,” said Bryony. “I’m so grateful for Flourish. It’s been fundamental in helping me find my feet in a new town, community, and as a mother of three,” added Cushla.
We are honoured to offer this support to caregivers doing the most important job in the world. Your contributions help us continue offering Awhi to those who need it most. Thank you for your ongoing support and belief in our mission.
