Fonzie has been diagnosed with cataracts and is now almost completely blind. The condition is reversible with a rather costly eye surgery.
Otago
Fonzie, our beautiful black Labrador-Retriever, has cataracts resulting in almost total blindness. At only 7 years old, he is still such an active dog but cannot do all the activities that he loves to.
He is such a happy loving dog but not being able to see is causing him to become very scared in general surroundings and walk into objects hurting himself. We are essentially his seeing-eye-humans.
He currently receives eye drops daily to stop this condition progressing into glaucoma. He will need these for the rest of his life regardless of surgery. Cataract surgery is very effective in returning sight but is very expensive at around $4500. Only 2 specialists perform this procedure in NZ.
I don't like to ask for help but this is the best chance for Fonzie to live a full and happy life for years to come. Any help towards this operation would be greatly appreciated.
Donations will go towards cataract surgery.
Surgery Success! 27 June 2018
It's now been a month since Fonz had his eye surgery. It was a tough recovery involving 6 medications, about 24 eye drops a day and that dreaded cone. But he's been such good patient and he's back to acting like a happy pup again!
I'll never forget the generosity of everyone - friends, family, strangers and local Dunedin businesses Henry's Centre City, Cell Division Brewery, The Portsider, and My Little Local. I can't thank you all enough for the amazing support.
