Kua hinga he totara i te wao nui a Tane
A totara has fallen in the forest of Tane
It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Andy Bray, in the early hours of Saturday 2 June 2018. A mighty Totara has fallen. He leaves the imprint of a great man, with a huge love of life and immense impact for good in so many other people’s lives. Our loss of Andy is profound, and our hearts go out to his wife Nikki, and to Olivia, Asher and Ben and his wider family.
Andy’s adventurous life was derailed by health problems, enduring kidney failure, dialysis, cancer, transplant failure, stroke and heart failure. The effects took their toll on his body, yet he remained a man of enormous strength, passion and integrity. In 2008 the Bray family were devastated by the loss of their precious Natasha, who tragically died at the age of 16 in the Mangatepopo canyoning tragedy.
Andy said of himself; "To me it was an ordinary life full of struggles, I don’t see it as extraordinary." But to those of us who were so fortunate to know him, Andy was inspirational. Always optimistic and thankful, maintaining hope despite so much adversity and tragedy. We have so much respect for an amazing friend, and hugely loved man.
Andy and Nikki – their lives, family and work as directors of FamilyLife NZ; spoke so much of their character and integrity; and profound faith in their God who they loved and served wholeheartedly.
The loss of this remarkable, loving man is going to be very difficult for Nikki and the family.
Many people who knew Andy and whose lives were touched by him are wanting to know how they can show their support at this incredibly difficult time.
This page has been created with the permission of the family, to raise funds to alleviate the immediate and future financial pressure the family faces as a result of Andy’s death.
