In summary we need lights, flooring and signage to kick start this snowballing creative, community, endeavour.
Auckland
but its not just art....
The brainchild of Hillary Austin and Richard Calder, (in consultation with Foundation partner and local artist Awa Gillgren), Foundation Gallery & Arts Hub will be breathing new life into the small eclectic, alternative coastal village of Leigh very soon. The search for a studio space for Byron Bay artist Hillary in her new home of Leigh led to the idea of creating a shared studio space, which led to the idea of a gallery, which led to the idea of a community space, which led to Foundation.
While this is a private enterprise, we are making this space from a real desire to enhance the heart beat in our little town. It is all about encouraging creativity and community. We hope to open before Christmas and will start with children’s art classes so the kids have great things to do through the holidays!
Throughout 2020 Foundation will be serving up a range of Art exhibitions and programs. Kicking off is the Welcome Show, which is a group show exhibiting locally based artists across different mediums. The gallery intends to have 12 exhibitions a year which address a divergent range of criteria and interests including the Trolley Cart Derby show that is in conjunction with the projected Leigh Trolley Cart Derby family day through Foundation with proceeds going to the Leigh Fire department and first on scene.
The Foundation Gallery year concludes with the Leigh pre-school and primary school Christmas show and will showcase local children’s artworks collected throughout the school year to assist with revenue raising programs for both schools.
There are a series of Community workshops, with local and international art practitioners such as the natural plant dying and indigo dying workshops with one of Australia’s premier plant dying experts Anne Leon and Screen printing with Graham “Potts” Porter.
Other classes and events include Children's after school and holiday art classes, Life drawing classes, Adult painting classes, Dr Sketchy, Dance in the Dark, Community art projects, Men’s shed - Tool Time Tuesday, Women’s shed - Weave and Wine Wednesday with much more to come.
Our aim is to use the events to partner with local interest groups and business partners to fund raise and build awareness of local issues and help where we can
The funds raised will go towards materials for the community arts classes including kids holiday program, effective lighting to best show case out local artists, simple hanging system.
art in its purity, creative classes for kids and big kids, a little goes a long was 17 December 2019
foundation have had thier opening on the 12th of december with a massive turn out thank you everyone for your support. Foundations next step is organising kids classes/materials and hanging system. Awa says "in painting a scene or choosing an object to paint an artist is saying i think this is worth looking at and giving you an opportunity to see it through there eyes. we all know the kids are what has bought our community together and i would love to give them a chance to show us what they value in my classes to expand all our visions and imaginations". hillary says "we have this incredible space we created and art classes give kids a positive safe area to get creative, we realise holidays are hard on parents and we want to provide another option of something to do."
