Auckland
For Fran and her family, 2001 was meant to be the start of an exciting new adventure. Having decided to emigrate to New Zealand from the UK earlier that year, the bags were just about packed when she started feeling numbness in her body. Putting it down to stress from the move, it wasn’t until she landed in New Zealand that she actually received the bad news – she had Multiple Sclerosis.
“It’s not the way we wanted our new life to start, but you have to just roll with the punches”, she explains.
Since then, Fran has been forced to accept early retirement due to ill health. And while she remains as positive and optimistic about life as possible, the condition affects almost every area of her life. “Putting on clothes, doing my make-up, cooking dinner…everything just takes a lot longer now.”
MS Auckland provides personalised support services to people living with Multiple Sclerosis, along with their families, friends and carers. Our mission is to minimise the impact of MS on these people, while working to improve treatments and ultimately find a cure.
MS can make easy things hard. But the good news is it’s easy to help. Please help MS Auckland support people like Fran, by giving what you can through Givealittle, or head to msakl.org.nz to find out more.
