Mischa and Liam are raising funds to continue their training towards the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina, Italy.
Nationwide
Thirteen year olds Mischa Thomas and Liam Richards from Takapuna Grammar School have been invited to continue their training in Switzerland in early 2022 and are raising money to fund their trip.
Liam has been training and competing in Freestyle Skiing for a number of years and has proven himself to be a great competitor. Winning titles in NZ and overseas, he is always pushing to learn new tricks. Liam is also part of the National Development team. 2021 saw Liam place 2nd in the U14 NZ Junior Nationals in Slopestyle and Halfpipe events.
Mischa is a relative newcomer to competitive freestyle skiing. Whilst she’s been on snow since she was 3, she only started training in the park in 2020 and impressed immediately, winning the NZ U14 National title and Slopestyle series. 2021 saw Mischa winning the U14 NZ Junior Nationals Slopestyle and Halfpipe events.
Whilst in Switzerland not only will they be training hard, they are both looking to be selected by Snowsports NZ to represent New Zealand at the Junior World Championships.

Mischa and Liam had an extremely productive time in Switzerland from January through April and are probably over the moon with happiness to be back in the classroom at school today. Both managed to learn some new tricks on the rails and jumps, whilst Mischa didn't participate in any competitions over there Liam had a solid result at Junior worlds landing a trick he'd never landed in competition before! We're all looking forward to watching them take what they've learned in Europe and apply it over the NZ season which is fast approaching.
