Support a Brazilian NGO which rescue animals from the streets, mostly in severe health condition due to cruelty and mistreating
Nelson / Tasman
Hi Animal Lovers,
I know many people would like to help and support charities but some don’t know much about what is out there and some lack to trust if their money is actually going to the right place. This givealittle was created with the intention to raise funds for a wonderful Non-Governmental Organization - in Jaboatao dos Guararapes, Brazil – called APAR (Associação de Proteção aos Animais de Rua, in English, Association for the Protection of Street Animals) which my wife and I are part of and is managed by my mother-in-law Maria da Paz Silva back in Brazil.
About APAR
The NGO APAR is responsible for more than 250 rescued street dogs and cats which are rehabilitated for adoption (most animals came from a past of cruelty and mistreating, arriving at APAR with high risk of death) and is 100% maintained by donations. Operating at full capacity, the mission of APAR is to care for sheltered animals ensuring love, food, health, safety, and leisure, seeking a better future for the animals through safe adoptions, or maintaining the best quality of life respecting the principles of hygiene and organization. APAR was founded in 2008 (CNPJ 09299551000172) by Maria da Paz Silva, who dedicates her life to look after the animals in the everyday duties (cleaning, feeding, taking the animals to Vets), in addition to being responsible for the management part of the NGO.
APAR current monthly expenses are variable, depending on the animal’s needs. But the fixed expenses are:
Rental property where the animals live – BRL$ 1800.00 (~800.00 NZD)
Cat food – BRL$ 2400.00 (~1000.00 NZD)
Dog food – BRL$ 2200.00 (~925.00 NZD)
One employee (housekeeping and animal helper) - BRL$ 1150 (~465.00 NZD)
Medicine and hygiene products – BRL$ 550.00 (~230 NZD)
Which is an approximate minimum value of 3420.00 NZD monthly
Why to help an NGO in Brazil?
According to the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights, all animals have the right to life, respect and protection of man, should not be mistreated and never abandoned. It also determines that any act that endangers the life of an animal is considered a crime against life.
Despite legal protection, the reality of animals in Brazil is quite different. What can be seen frequently in the streets of any Brazilian city are street animals that are wounded, sick and that represent risks to the health of the society. It is not surprising to see that no action has been taken by the Brazilian government, since Brazil takes even the health of its own people with disregard.
According to the World Health Organization, there are about 30 million animals abandoned in Brazil. Of these, 20 million are dogs, while 10 million are cats, and these are numbers for 2014, it is very likely that the situation is even worse. To give you an idea, the entire continent of Oceania has about 41,261,212 million people and New Zealand has a population of about 4,705,818 which is approximately 5x less than the population of street dogs in Brazil.
APAR is a wonderful Non-Governmental Organization that rescues dogs and cats - mainly injured and abused animals - from the streets of Jaboatao in Brazil and provide them shelter, food, and love. My mother-in-law is the person in charge of the organization and the costs she has with the animals are much higher that what she can afford and the few donation she receives are not enough to cover the expenses.
Funds will be used to meet APAR's current minimum monthly expenses which are variable, depending on the animal’s needs.
APAR is moving to a new house... 6 April 2018
APAR has managed to finance a house for the animals and will soon stop paying rent and start paying a mortgage (which is much better for the future of the animals). However, lots need to be done in order for the animals to move to their new home and we need your support more than ever to build the right spaces to animals and fix the problems the new house comes with it. See some pictures of the "new place" that require a lot of maintenance to make it suitable for the animals. We count on your support to see those animals in a well-deserved place after so much life suffering. Keep an eye on this area as will be constantly adding updates and showing where the money you are donating is going to.
All the very best!
