Help support Chloe and her family through an unimaginable journey as this young mum fights to return home to her two children.

Chloe is a much-loved 36-year-old mum of 2 who is currently fighting for her life in Auckland ICU.

What began as Influenza A took a devastating turn. Chloe developed severe pneumonia and sepsis and was taken by ambulance to Clyde Hospital, where she was immediately intubated. She was then helicoptered to Dunedin, before being flown to Auckland to access ECMO, life support used when the lungs cannot provide enough oxygen. She is also receiving dialysis and remains in an induced coma on life support.

On Friday 21 August, Chloe was described as “the sickest person in New Zealand”, with just a 10% chance of survival. Not exactly the national title anyone wants to aspire to! Thankfully, her percentage is increasing each day, but she remains critically ill and there is still a long road ahead.

Chloe is immune compromised, making this even more frightening for her family.

Chloe is a Teacher Aide at Alexandra Primary School and has previously volunteered as a firefighter, always someone who has given her time to help others.

Now, her family needs to help her.

Her mum is by her side in Auckland and may need to remain there for weeks or months, facing significant accommodation, travel and living costs while being unable to work. When Chloe is strong enough, we also hope her two children can travel to see their mum.

Funds raised will help cover these unexpected costs and keep Chloe’s family close throughout her recovery.

Chloe is my cousin and we are just six weeks apart. She is an only child and we grew up in a close-knit family. I’m organising this on behalf of our family, who will do everything in our power to support Chloe and help her fight her way through this.

Help cover accommodation, travel and living costs for Chloe’s mum, who is from Alexandra and may need to remain in Auckland for weeks or months, unable to work while supporting Chloe. Funds may also enable Chloe’s children to visit when suitable.

As we come to the end of Chloe’s Givealittle page, we wanted to share one last update and, most importantly, say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported Chloe and our family over the past few weeks.

Chloe remains in an induced coma and on life support and VV-ECMO, but she has come such a long way since those first terrifying days. Her blood pressure has stabilised, she has successfully come off dialysis, and today she trialled lowering her reliance on the ventilator for a few hours — a huge milestone and another really positive step forward. ❤️

She still has a long road ahead, but we are incredibly grateful for the progress she has made and for the incredible team caring for her in Auckland.

We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming generosity and support shown to Chloe and our family. On behalf of our whole family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your donations, messages, shares and support have meant more than you know.

We also wanted to share something particularly special. The children at Alexandra Primary School made a beautiful, colourful hand window display at Chloe’s workplace, with the words “Kia Kaha” — stay strong — for Chloe. 🌈❤️ It was such a thoughtful and uplifting gesture, and a beautiful reminder of how many people have been behind her throughout this journey.
