From Influenza A to an Induced Coma: Help Chloe Fight Her Way Home to Her Children ❤️

  • ❤️ Chloe’s fight continues ❤️

    We have finally had some MIRACLE milestones. 🙏❤️

    Chloe’s lungs have suffered significant damage from infection and pneumonia. Her entire left lung has been damaged beyond repair by necrosis, and around 25% of her right lung has also been affected. She has relied on ECMO for gas exchange.

    After more than six weeks on ECMO, doctors started testing whether her lungs could take over.

    The testing went better than expected…

    CHLOE IS NOW OFFICIALLY OFF ECMO! 🎉🎉🎉

    Her lungs are now doing enough of the work themselves. This is absolutely massive.

    And today they sat her up on the side of her bed! ❤️ After more than six weeks lying horizontal, another enormous milestone as they begin rebuilding her strength.

    Most amazingly, the word “if” has now been replaced with “when.”

    When Chloe gets stronger. When Chloe gets out of ICU.

    Last weekend Chloe was supposed to step into a cage for a women’s MMA fight. 🥊 Instead, she has spent the last six weeks fighting a completely different battle.

    Mere days after she was meant to fight, Chloe has fought her way OFF ECMO.

    Different fight. Much bigger fight. One hell of a milestone. ❤️🥊

    There is still a long road ahead. Chloe has a tracheostomy and much strength and lung recovery ahead.

    One fight at a time, Chloe. ❤️

    As we come to the end of Chloe’s Givealittle page, we wanted to share one last update and, most importantly, say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported Chloe and our family over the past few weeks.

    Chloe remains in an induced coma and on life support and VV-ECMO, but she has come such a long way since those first terrifying days. Her blood pressure has stabilised, she has successfully come off dialysis, and today she trialled lowering her reliance on the ventilator for a few hours — a huge milestone and another really positive step forward. ❤️

    She still has a long road ahead, but we are incredibly grateful for the progress she has made and for the incredible team caring for her in Auckland.

    We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming generosity and support shown to Chloe and our family. On behalf of our whole family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your donations, messages, shares and support have meant more than you know.

    We also wanted to share something particularly special. The children at Alexandra Primary School made a beautiful, colourful hand window display at Chloe’s workplace, with the words “Kia Kaha” — stay strong — for Chloe. 🌈❤️ It was such a thoughtful and uplifting gesture, and a beautiful reminder of how many people have been behind her throughout this journey.

    We’ll be closing the Givealittle page now, but we’ll continue to cheer Chloe on as she takes the next steps in her recovery.

  • One week on ❤️

    It’s hard to believe we are already a week into Chloe’s journey. She remains critically ill, on life support and in an induced coma, but we have had some really encouraging steps forward.

    Her blood pressure has stabilised, her temperature has returned to normal and, most recently, the doctors have trialled taking her off dialysis. They are keeping a very close eye on her kidneys and are hopeful she won’t need dialysis again.

    Chloe still has a long road ahead and there are many hurdles to overcome, but for now we are incredibly grateful that she is stable and receiving the incredible care of the team in Auckland.

    Family are by Chloe’s side, and we are so thankful she is surrounded by love and support while she continues to fight.

    A huge thank you to everyone who has donated, shared her Givealittle page, sent messages and offered support. Your generosity and kindness mean more than we can put into words, and are helping Chloe and her loved ones through what is an incredibly difficult time. ❤️

    We’ll continue to keep you updated as she takes each step forward. ✨
