A fundraiser for Rose to study violin in Austria
Wellington
Hi! My name is Rose Light. I am a kiwi violinist continuing my music studies in 2024 at the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts in Austria. This will be an invaluable learning experience and will enable me to develop skills necessary for a career as a professional violinist. As a student coming from a single parent family, I would so appreciate your support to help me with my studies in Europe.
Here is my bio:
Already an accomplished violinist at age 19, Rose’s string quartet won the Queensland International Chamber Music Competition 2019 (Under 18s), she won First Place in the International Noteable Instrumental Competition 2022, Second Place in the Wellington Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition 2023 and she was a Semi Finalist in the NZ National String Competition 2021. Rose was one of six Violin Fellows at the Michael Hill International Violin Competition 2023. She was awarded her Licentiate of Music Diploma with Distinction in 2020. She has performed as a soloist with Australian ensembles and played twice at the Sydney Opera House with Staatskapelle Berlin and the Australian World Orchestra as a member of the NSW Regional Youth Orchestra. Rose is a recipient of the Barbara Finlayson Violin Scholarship and the Raukaraka Leadership Scholarship at the Victoria University. She studies violin under Dr Martin Riseley and plays on a Riccardo Bergonzi Violin available through a generous loan by the Hill Family Foundation for Art and Music.
All donations will be used towards travel, tuition, masterclasses and violin maintenance costs during my study overseas at university and summer schools.
Update from Austria 25 April 2024
Hello everyone! Thank you so much for your support through this Givealittle. It is closed now, so here's a quick update. If you would like to follow my journey further have a look on: https://www.facebook.com/roselightviolin . Or send me your email and I will add you to my Newsletter (4x per yr).
I am loving studying in Graz! I am playing in a string trio coached by the First Violinist of the Jerusalem String Quartet and I will soon be joining the University's Opera Orchestra for 4 performances of 'The Merry Widow'. My violin teacher is the Concertmaster of the Vienna Opera Orchestra and I am so enjoying her classes.
I was grateful to be accepted into a couple of music summer programmes in Europe and the Domaine Forget Academy in Quebec. I will attend one in Serbia called the Stefan Milenkovich Institut, where I will stay for 3 weeks of intensive violin lessons, chamber music, theory and physical training. These summer programmes are very competitive, so I am excited to be participating. I'll post updates on my Facebook page if you'd like to see what I get up to there.
I've enjoyed some travelling around Austria since being here and look forward to exploring more of Europe soon.
Thank you to those of you who have financially supported me studying here, I could not have done this without you. If you would like to support me further, with university study or to attend the summer programme in Serbia, feel free to contact me roseviolin112@gmail.com
