To raise money for a MONUMENT for Constable Neil McLeod, slain on duty in 1890.
Dargaville, Northland
In 1890, Constable Neil McLeod was shot and killed whilst on duty in Dargaville, Kaipara.
For quite some years, I have been visiting Neil's family plot in Waikumete Cemetery, to lay flowers and pay my respects.
I am not blood family but, as my father was also shot and killed on duty in the NZ Police, I am "family not born of a bloodline, but bonded in life by a blue one"
When I was in Dargaville on Police Remembrance Day (29th September) last year, I went looking for a monument in his honour to lay flowers. I was deeply saddened to discover that there isn't one.
This is a significant event in NZ history and we absolutely need a monument for him. To remember, honour and respect him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in the execution of his duty and the protection of our society.
So, I decided to make it my mission to get one for him. I have raised $1000 so far (knitting) but I need some help. So,.... here I am ...
I am "family not born of a bloodline, but bonded in life by a blue one"
The creation, purchase, placement of a MONUMENT at the site of his death.
