Fundraising for Nepalese women rescued from sex slavery

Mum and I are about to spend a few weeks in Kathmandu, Nepal at a home for girls and women who have been rescued from sex slavery and brothels, and also girls from the villages around where the extreme poverty of their family will often mean that they are at high risk of being sold into sex slavery.

They are mostly from villages of Badi people, a marginalised and ostracised people group who have been horribly and shamefully treated merely due to being a low value people in Nepal. The homes (there are 8 of them that Lighthouse Foundation runs) save girls and women while giving them education, training in skills, love and acceptance, and sharing Christian faith.

We are heading there September 1st and we are so excited! Specifically we will be teaching the rescued girls skills to help them integrate into society, as well as helping them to recover from traumatic times, loving and caring for them, painting and washing etc AND !!! playing and cuddling with the babies and little ones as being a forced prostitute doesn’t stop you from getting pregnant.

Ok!! Back to where we need your help!! Our family friends have been helping/running the homes for years and we have asked them/the coordinator of Lighthouse Foundation what we could bring with us to help, and make a difference to the girls. He says that they are extremely short of money for everything such as clothes, blankets and basic supplies. He suggests that we bring money and buy things there. So this is what we’re gonna do! Take money to Nepal and shop with the coordinator from the hostel to buy these basic things for the girls. The need is huge, they currently need clothes for all the hostels which house 450 girls (!!!!!) in total.

After we get back, and possibly during, (depending on the internet) we will share our stories. I know there will be many, and the young women will inspire and the kids will melt our hearts.
