Our beautiful Faith has been diagnosed with Bilateral MCDK along with other health issues, she has a 1% chance of survival

Auckland

At 20 weeks when we found out our Twin B which we have named Faith has less than a 1% chance of survival it broke us, all our plans stopped, we didn't buy anything, we cancelled our gender reveal our baby shower and completely shut everything out.

Our beautiful Faith lost all her fluid between 16-20weeks, she has been diagnosed with Bilateral multicystic kidneys, her lungs have not developed due to this so she will not be able to breathe when born without assistance but due to the fact of losing fluid so early they cannot intervene and assist her with breathing without damaging her lungs or killing her on the machine, her heart is enlarged on the left side which also has fluid around it.

A human can simply not survive without at least 1 kidney functioning. The doctors expect her to live for the duration of our pregnancy but pass away within minutes of being born. We are holding onto so much hope that a small part of one of her kidneys start working and that she beats the doctor’s odds and be the first case they have seen in over 20 years survive. But as time gets closer with no change our hope doesn’t fade but our reality slowly becomes a lot harder.

This is the hardest thing any parent could go through and any couple could possibly face together. We have had countless appointments already resulting in a lot of time of work and other bills pushed aside to try get every opinion we can for our wee girl. We have meet with MFM team (Maternal Fetal Medicine) at Middle more hospital and changed MFM Doctors for second opinions we are now seen by Emma Parry on a weekly basis for our case.

We are also seen by the team of obstetricians at the Super clinic in Manukau, our midwife and the bereavement team at Middlemore ( Debbie Davies) for all funeral plans and processes of what happens once she has been born. We have had 1 off appointments with doctors such as the head of Neo-Natal to be explained what happens if they come early.

My partner (the twins dad) has picked up as many extra hours as he can at work to support the time off I need for all the above appointments however there is many appointments he needs to be involved in still like the funeral planning, rushed hospital visits due to pre-term labour and/or bleeding which has happened on a number of occasions

If Faith goes against the doctors odds becomes a miracle and survives, funds raised will be used to help for the following years. She will be born a very sick baby and will need dialysis from 2-3 months old, As her mother I will need time off work to care for her properly, she hopefully would be healthy by 3 years old and qualify for a kidney transplant which is another long waiting list, the funds will also be used to help with care for the other twin and their older brother while Faith is needing so many doctor and hospital appointments.

As of 21st November we are 31w2d pregnant

Every little bit does truly help us and we are forever grateful for all the support !

Use of funds

Funds raised will go towards funeral costs which aren't covered for children under 1 - plaque, funeral director, service, catering etc

Or other bills and care for siblings if she survives
