Aotearoa's only festival dedicated to the fascinating world of mycology - Fungi Fest NZ is back for 2026, but we need your support to make it happen!

Running annually in Autumn, this years festival will feature an incredible lineup of events, including...

- Expert-led walks and talks with David Whyte (Fungal Network of NZ) and the Fungi Fest NZ team

- Creative mushroom themed workshops with Local Artists; Metal embossing, Ink dipping (Suminagashi), Patches & Brooches, Relief Print, Pottery, Painting, Photography, Sewing and more!

- Concluding with a Mushroom Market (returning due to popular demand) featuring live music, fungi-themed stalls from local makers, and community celebration!

We've worked hard to raise the funds for this years festival including; Venue hire, supplies, transportation, resources, and marketing to spread the word. But we need help raising another $2000 to cover the charity insurance needed for hosting our month-long festival and other events over the next year. With over 2000 volunteer hours logged, we want to do everything we can to protect our team while continuing to give back to the community. We are nothing without our volunteer team!

We believe in removing financial barriers wherever possible. Many of our events operate on a koha/donation basis or at minimal cost, ensuring everyone can participate regardless of their financial situation.

About us

A small Tauranga-based, volunteer-run, charitable organisation whose purpose is to instigate Biological and Environmental science-based events, in the Western Bay of Plenty, that use creative practice as a tool to educate. Creators of Fungi Fest NZ.

Use of funds

The charity insurance required for hosting Fungi Fest NZ and other community events/festivals over the next year, so that all of our volunteer team will be protected while they do what they do best!

Thank you for all of your support on this project! Although we did not reach our goal here, we were able to secure some small business sponsors who got us across the line - which would not have been possible without your help!

Fungi Fest NZ 2026 will run from 5th June to 5th July with 24 public events! Half of them Koha/donation or free entry!! On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform.
