Your donation will contribute to our 2025 Prison Bake and Sweet As Hapori programme resources and volunteer koha.
Nationwide
Good Bitches Baking’s kaupapa is to enable people to spread kindness through the mechanism of baking. We operate from a no-judgement, all-access platform, and have developed our Community Good programmes to give some often pretty disenfranchised members of our community some more tools.
Prison Bake is a course of baking lessons that teaches participants more than how to combine ingredients. GBB volunteers visit the facility every week for 4-6 weeks to teach a group of people nearing the end of their term how to make some sweet treats.
Alongside the practical skills, we teach intangible skills about kindness - what it means to be kind and how it feels to be kind. The participants share some of the baking after each class, but crucially, most of it is donated to an organisation that supports people having a tough time. This is a key element of the programme.
Sweet as Hapori is a similar model to Prison Bake but in facilities such as addiction recovery centres, teen parent units and shelters. It's a looser model that allows for a drop-in version as well as the more structured 4-6 week programme, depending on what will work best for the facility.
In 2024:
We ran 7 Prison Bake programmes in 4 facilities, with 39 participants who made 137 boxes of treats for our recipient organisations
We piloted 3 Sweet As Hapori programmes in 2 centres with 11 participants who made 22 boxes of treats for our recipient organisations
We believe everyone deserves treats, no matter their circumstances.
This will cover the costs of resources & volunteer koha for our 2025 Prison Bake & Sweet As Hapori programmes, including recipes, baking boxes and ingredients flyers and a gift for our volunteers. All donations to this campaign will go towards these costs.
