GBHS Spanish students are supporting struggling coffee farmers in Nicaragua by providing urgent food and medication during the Covid crisis.
Auckland
Over the past few months GBHS Spanish students have been learning what life is like for small-scale coffee farmers in the Nueva Segovia region of Nicaragua, via communication with Ben - a Kiwi living there to support the local community. Many coffee farmers grow crops on a small piece of land, and earn about $150 per year for their work. Having enough money to provide for their families is a huge challenge.
Covid is now rampant in Nicaragua and is exasperating the needs of this community. Hospitals are full and supplies of oxygen are non-existent. Money can make a difference. We can lend a hand to ensure that the families of these coffee farmers receive urgently needed food and medication.
GBHS Spanish students are grateful to Ben for sharing his experiences of supporting the local community in Nueva Segovia to learn about how different life is there.
Money raised will be spent on emergency food and medication for the coffee farmers and their families in the region of Nueva Segovia.
