Geoff Moon; husband, father of three passes away unexpectedly on holiday in Italy
Auckland
My mum and dad, Angela & Geoff Moon, went on a trip to Italy on December 28th 2018. Dad eagerly anticipated showing mum the beautiful cities around Italy. They had been working relentlessly to save for this trip all year.
A week into their trip dad suddenly became sick, for reasons that remain unclear. He was admitted to hospital and shortly after was rushed into emergency surgery. After surgery dad was taken to ICU and put on life support. While dad’s health quickly declined, my younger brothers and I were alone back at home in NZ feeling distraught and helpless at the prospect of never seeing dad alive again.
We lost dad when his life support was turned off at 12.45pm on the 8th of January 2019 in Italy. Our world has been rocked and we are unable to come terms with losing our dad, hero and best friend so suddenly. However, we don’t mourn dad’s passing in isolation, this grief is shared with hundreds of boys who dad mentored and fathered as the boarding House Master at Mt Albert Grammar and the coach of the 1st XV, students past and present.
There have been a multitude of unexpected costs in the wake of dad’s death; life after dad passing away has meant that we have struggled financially which has made the process of mourning one that we struggle to get through in peace.
Losing dad is the hardest thing that has and will ever happen to our family. We are doing our best to rebuild our lives again after this huge loss and are facing a slow uphill climb in creating a sense of normality for our family again.
Money raised will help pay off unexpected funeral expenses and help support Geoff's wife and three children who are all at university and high school.
