On the 22nd of July I'm going to get punched in the face, but I'll be doing it for a great cause - The Maia Health Foundation.
Canterbury
I have no boxing experience, but following 8 weeks of training I will be stepping up in front of hundreds of my peers and taking part in the UCSA Charity Fight Night to raise money for a great cause.
100% of donations will go towards The Maia Health Foundation, a charity which aims to enhance the health experience in Canterbury. Christchurch Hospital looks after many of the South Island’s sickest children, with around 18,000 inpatients per year. Donations will specifically go to the 'children's facilities enhancements' project which aims to enhance medical facilities and make their time (and their families time) in hospital that much better. A couple of the projects they're currently working on are:
- Children's playground
- Activity room and school room
- Parents facilities including beds
- Child appropriate theming and décor across all paediatric spaces
'Maia’ means brave and courageous, and if I can be half as brave as these kids when I step into the ring, I think I'll be doing pretty well.
Here's a link to their website if you'd like to find out more: http://www.maiahealth.org.nz/projects/key-projects/childrens-facilities/
Whether its a little or a lot, lets help make the time in hospital for these kids and their families a little easier!
Thank you!
