Trying to get back on the road
Bay of Plenty
Me and my 17 year old son travelled around the East Cape and in Nuhaka, between Gisborne and Wairoa, one of our bikes got stolen and we experienced being threatend to harm us by gang members. We were trapped inside the place we stayed for 1.5 hours as they tried to steal the second bike.
Police came but could only retrieve half of the bike. They took all the fairings off and numberplate and basically trashed the bike to make it unusable.
We would like to get back on the road and keep only the good memories. It's my son's bike and he worked very hard for it.
Police reference number is 240219/3800 bike theft

Fixing the bike and recovery costs
update 8 March 2024
Generally we feel much better about the whole happening in Nuhaka. Time heals and we forgave the thieves and their mates for what they did. Life needs to go on in a positive way.
They did some serious damage to the bike and after checking it thoroughly we decided it would be a waste of time to get it halfway together and continue this biketour. Also our time here in NZ is running out. Some parts need to come from Europe and this takes time. We leave the bikes in storage and organise all the parts over time, where this funded money here will be spend for. As we will come to NZ more often, we will fix the bike and finish the tour at a later date.
We stopped this page to receive funding as we think we can be back on the road for the funds that have been achieved. If people end up on this page and want to give a little, we think it would be best to give a little to a youth organisation or similar.
Thanks again for everyone that helped us to get back on the road and keep only the good memories about Aotearoa New Zealand.
