German travellers robbed by gang

  • update

      8 March 2024

Generally we feel much better about the whole happening in Nuhaka. Time heals and we forgave the thieves and their mates for what they did. Life needs to go on in a positive way.

They did some serious damage to the bike and after checking it thoroughly we decided it would be a waste of time to get it halfway together and continue this biketour. Also our time here in NZ is running out. Some parts need to come from Europe and this takes time. We leave the bikes in storage and organise all the parts over time, where this funded money here will be spend for. As we will come to NZ more often, we will fix the bike and finish the tour at a later date.

We stopped this page to receive funding as we think we can be back on the road for the funds that have been achieved. If people end up on this page and want to give a little, we think it would be best to give a little to a youth organisation or similar.

Thanks again for everyone that helped us to get back on the road and keep only the good memories about Aotearoa New Zealand.

We are still waiting for the bike to come back from Napier. We managed to get a new number plate from VTNZ. Very hard to get parts.

Good to be at our base up North with lovely people and really good to get so many uplifting messages through here. The donations will help to fix the bike.

We are really humbled by the help we received. Many thanks to everyone that donated. It will help. We started to realise that the emotional damage can't be repaired so quickly and we stopped our trip and went to our base in Whangarei to Pick Up the pieces. Also with only one bike left to ride we could not take all our luggage anymore. The stolen bike and the rest of the luggage will take until next week Thursday to arrive in Whangarei and it will take ages to fix it.

We will come back one day to finish our trip.

NZ is a fantastic country and has fantastic friendly, helpful people. But a few can spoil alot. What we experienced was pretty shocking and way above what i would Imagine could happen here. The reason for going public was to create awareness that this has actually happend. I'm feeling mostly for my son who lost some of his faith in the good things in the world.

Thanks Erich, i just send a message to the police in Wairua to actually obtain a search warrant for that house in Nuhaka as all the parts will be just sitting there. That would be the speediest solution. Lock and steering lock needs to come new. Part are missing: speedo, front fairing incl. lights and brackets, all plastic covers, complete tail section including all lights, numberplate etc.,

several brackets. Frame is damaged at the steering lock but can potentially be welded.

Bike is 2000 KTM 640 Supermoto, not a very common bike in NZ unfortunately
