I am a final year engineering student that has been selected to represent NZ in the 2019 Taekwon-do World Championships in Germany.
Manawatu / Whanganui
My name is Tom Biggs. I am a 21 years old Bachelor of Engineering student, who will be representing New Zealand at the 2019 Taekwon-Do World Championships held in Inzell Germany this April.
Germany will be my second World Championship campaign. Back in 2017, I competed at the World Championships in Ireland where I unfortunately failed to medal. As hard of a pill that was to swallow it gave me more motivation to perfect my craft and grow as a martial artist. Ireland was great for many reasons, it showed me I could hold my own with the best in the world, it lit a fire inside me to come back better, and it showed me there is no fast way to the top.
NZ overall does extremely well at the Taekwon-do World Championships, coming 2nd best overall in Ireland and best overall in 2013 and 2015. Training with such great athletes and coaches has allowed me to improve a lot since the last campaign and I am ready to prove myself on the World stage.
Taekwon-do has required me to invest many hours outside of university meaning long weeks and little sleep. Despite this, I have still managed to keep my grades up and am on the path to first class honors (A average).
This tournament is a great opportunity and would not be possible without the generosity of others. Every little bit donated is greatly appreciated. Even if you can't spare a couple of dollars sharing this page on your Facebook would be a huge help.
Much Love, Thank-you!
