Get Border collie X Pipi back on her feet!

$3,537 of $7,000 goal
Given by 73 generous donors in 6 weeks

Our worst nightmare last night when our dog got hit by a car. Now we're facing extraordinary bills for surgery to get her back on her feet

Muriwai, Auckland

We humbly ask for help if you can. Last night our dog Pip was hit by a car on the road. She spent the night at one vet clinic before being transferred to Albany Referral centre this morning, which is a specialist vet clinic.

She has a broken pelvis and needs surgery for a large hip fracture. Without the surgery, she can't weight bear on her hind end at all and so can't move or walk. In medical terms "A long oblique fracture is present along the right body of the ileum with mild ventral displacement. The caudal border of the fracture line appears to terminate in close proximity to the the coxofemoral joint without clear communication". The cost is astronomical. We have paid almost $4,000 already just for the hospitalisation & diagnostics and haven't started surgery (another estimated $6000-$8000)

*Update total cost has been $12,340

Pipi is our only child, absolutely lights our days and is a hugely active, funny, quirky & very good girl. She has a promising future as a kiwi scat detection dog & absolutely loves it. We are devastated to see her so immobile and in so much pain. Please help us recover our girl if you can.

Pipi loving life  5 April 2023

Hi team! This update is looonnnngggg overdue. One of the videos I tool for ya'll back in September! Eek.

Thanks to all your incredible support, Pipi has been back loving life and living it to her new level of fullest (just don't tell her that it's not her old level). She was really lucky to get back enough nerve function in her right leg so she could have adequate sense of awareness to use her foot properly without needing a device on to stop her scraping her toes with each step. Yay! This means we are back to our usual off-track adventures and she can navigate logs and sand dunes and uneven ground like a champ.

She loves her two adventures a day, herding sheep and chickens and swallows and going out on the odd horse ride. We have had to give up dog agility, jumping in and out of things, bike rides and running with the vehicles... which she loved and we loved because it trimmed her toe nails.

She still has pretty severe muscle wastage on the right hind end due to the nerve damage, is getting a bit achy and sore, and it's taking more effort to lift herself off the ground. So adventures are getting a bit shorter in duration, I'm looking into some more physio & I have allll the supplements to help with mobility coming in the post.

But genuinely, going through that really traumatic time and long recovery period has given me such an appreciation of having Pipi in my life. Every single day I feel grateful, and nothing brings me more peace than watching her tail wag in front of me when we're out in the forest.

THANK YOU.
