My wife didn't deserve to have her bike stolen. I'm trying to do something about it and turn a negative situation into a positive. Thank you

Canterbury

Hi team. I have created this page because sadly my wife's bike was stolen from outside her place of work. My wife is the most caring and kind person I know and I was heartbroken when she called me to say it had been taken. She had finished another 10 hour day at the cafe where she works and saw that her bike was missing with the lock left on the ground cut clean through.

I had this idea to start a Givealittle fund because I wanted to try and turn something negative into a positive with your help. It was a stranger who took her bike. They didn't know that we had got it for her birthday. They didn't know that she uses it every day to get to and from work. They didn't know that we saved up and spent a little more on a stronger bike so my wife would be safe while she biked to work at 6am in the dark. Maybe if they did they would have left the bike locked up where it was. I also know that strangers can be amazing which is why I am asking for your help.

I know that we are still very lucky. I see people who are struggling more than us every day and I try and help where I can. I just feel so helpless and my wife deserves more. She did not deserve for her bike to be stolen so I have to try and do something about it. If you can donate anything towards me getting Bri another bike that would mean the world. I hope I can repay the favour one day. Thank you.

My wife had her bike stolen from outside her work. We can't afford to buy her another one but I have to try to help.

Use of funds

Any funds raised will go towards getting Bri a bike to replace the one that was stolen. I hope to get her a large lock, safety lights and a new helmet as these were also taken or broken.

Latest update

Thank you for the support.  6 September 2019

Hi team. I just wanted to write an update to say thank you. I am honestly so touched with all the support you have shown.

Bri and I have received a letter from the Police stating that they have not been able to find her bike and will not be pursuing the case any further. We have been scrolling through Trade Me and Stolen Bike Facebook pages with no luck. I also lodged cases with Cash Converters and The Pawn Shop to see if someone would take the bike in to sell. We have sadly not heard back from any of these avenues.

Moving forward though I am stoked we are so close to our goal and am looking forward to seeing how happy Bri will be when I tell her what you all have done and we can get her back on her bike!

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
