Outward Bound - an experience that will help me be a better Outdoor Educator, mentor for young people, and provide time for self growth
Wellington
At the end of July, I will be attending a 21 day course at Outward Bound thanks to the generosity of the Duncan Charitable Foundation who have awarded me a partial scholarship. I am super excited, especially as it was touch and go given the Covid-19 situation.
Those of you who know me well, know that I always overthink anything new, get scared of 'scary' things easily, like being in control of the situations I'm in, and can easily get caught in the headspace of self doubt. As an Outdoor Educator myself, I try to teach young people the opposite of what I listed above! So I feel that it's time I start to work more on these aspects of myself, push my own boundaries and limits, and practice what I preach.
Outward Bound also gives me a chance to learn from, and be inspired by some of the best Outdoor Educators in New Zealand. Working with young people in the outdoors is so important, and I believe I am making a real difference to the children I work with. As someone who strives to improve constantly, I want to learn from the best, be inspired by their energy and wisdom, and then take that back to my own role.
Like everything, this experience comes at a cost, and unfortunately I cannot afford to fund the remainder of the course fee by myself. That's why I need your help to get there! Any donation you make will be contributing to my own self development, but also helping me further inspire and educate other young people in the future. I would also be hugely grateful, and even more motivated to do you all proud.
All funds raised will be put towards the cost of my Outward Bound course. Any surplus funds will be donated to Outward Bound, as all Outdoor Education Centres are struggling financially in these times.
