We're embarking on a journey to the US with Hayley for leg surgery, a step towards her gaining the ability to stand & make life manageable.
Hamilton, Waikato
Meet Hayley, a remarkable girl living with Arthrogryposis, a condition that confines her to a wheelchair due to locked hips, knees, and ankles at a 90-degree angle. In New Zealand, we've struggled to find medical professionals willing to perform the necessary surgery.
Recently, we attended an Arthrogryposis conference in the United States, where we witnessed inspiring stories of children gaining their ability to walk through specialized surgery. We connected with doctors ready to help Hayley.
Now, we face an exciting yet challenging journey to the Shriners Hospital in Greenville Carolina for a 3-4 month treatment plan including leg and hip surgery and rehabilitation, costing around $90,000.
We understand these are tough times for everyone, but we're reaching out to our community for any support, no matter how small. Each donation brings us closer to transforming Hayley's life.
Hayley is a vibrant, determined girl. Walking would be a game-changer, as her limited strength in her arms and legs poses daily challenges. It would enable her to perform simple tasks like transferring from her wheelchair to the toilet, bed, or car.
Our goal is to make these tasks more accessible for Hayley, and any additional progress would be a tremendous bonus. Your support can help turn this dream into reality.
Join us in Hayley's journey to walk again. Your generosity and kindness mean the world to us. Thank you for considering being a part of this transformative journey.
The funds will be allocated towards cover the cost of the surgery, if for any unforeseen reason we do not proceed and go to America, the funds will be given to True Colours Children's Health Trust in Hamilton
Merry Christmas to Hayley's Supporters 10 December 2024
Morena Friends and Hayley Supporters
A quick update before Christmas on Hayley's progress. Hayley is thriving with her new legs and her new-found freedom to move.
Posted in the link on this post is a short video that made my heart sing! Hayley, standing and dancing at the school disco, with Dad. What a magical sight and one that this time last year we could only dream of.
Hayley is continuing to build strength in her legs and learning to take more and more steps. The family were so blessed to be given a freedom chair by the Lions in South Carolina. A freedom chair is a lightweight electric wheelchair that can be easily transported in the car. This chair has given Hayley the opportunity to explore her own environment in a way that she chooses, instead of the person who is pushing the wheelchair. She is quite the speed freak and there has had to be some road safety lessons to counter the need for speed!
Hayley continues with swimming and plays wheelchair soccer. She is thriving at school, her imaginative play drawing in everyone she meets.
Our Christmas Gift to you this year is the knowledge that you have changed this small girl's life in a profound way. Thank you for your gift, and support for Hayley and the Family.
I will update you all on Hayley's adventures in 2025 as she continues her journey to Stand Tall.
