Get the Barden Party to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!

  • We're Heading Back to Edinburgh!

We are excited to announce that we're heading back to Edinburgh with our new original musical, Heracles Part I & taking Macbeth back for another run at the world's largest arts festival! We have managed to gain the support of two very generous sponsors who have organised a tour of Scotland for us AND paid for our PR and venues for BOTH shows at the Edinburgh Fringe 2026. That means, we have to raise the funds for our flights and accommodation. We applied to Creative New Zealand for these expenses and out of 29 applications, they funded 19 of them. We were not one of the funded.

Even in times when communities are stretched, artists are expected to keep asking for support. It is not our favourite thing to do. It can be demoralising and detracts from the actual job of creation. Yet it is exactly at these moments that art matters most, to inspire, to challenge, to connect, and to keep culture alive. After one successful season at Edinburgh and four international tours, we want to keep taking risks, doing big things, and representing New Zealand on the world stage, but we cannot do it without your help. Every donation directly puts our artists and stories on stage, bringing independent theatre from NZ to Edinburgh and beyond, ensuring these voices continue to be seen, heard, and celebrated. So we appreciate you. And if you are in the position to help us go even further, a new link has been created for our next venture: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/help-the-barden-party

Well. Edinburgh Fringe has finished, and the Barden Party have packed up our ropes and instruments and parted ways, some back to New Zealand, some going on to more adventures in Europe. We're so thrilled at the reception we got in Edinburgh; five star reviews, pages of positive audience reactions, sold out shows, and many, many requests to come back next year. We honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience, and we owe a huge thank you to a lot of people, but especially those people who supported us financially. Creating art in this economy is a real privilege, and we don't take that lightly. We consider ourselves incredibly luck to have had this experience. Some of you will know that usually, we do everything ourselves, from the creative side to the logistics, to marketing (although in Edinburgh we were lucky to be working with the incredible team at Chloe Nelkin Consulting for PR support). In saying that, it also takes a village. We couldn't have done this without our support networks, from partners, to parents, to friends, family, and our creative whanau. Thank you all for your support and love. We are so grateful. Thank you, ngā mihi nui kia koutou. Love, The Barden Party.

      7 July 2025

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to our campaign so far. We're so grateful, and incredibly excited for our trip! If you're interested in keeping up with us on the tour, go ahead and follow us on instagram at The Barden Party. And if you know anyone who is in a position to help us any further, please feel free to share the link to this Givealittle! Edinburgh during the Fringe is incredibly expensive so every dollar helps us survive the wild ride that is Fringe. Thank you so much everyone!

Hi everyone! We're so humbled by the immediate support for our fundraiser. We've just finished the 90 show Australasian tour and are taking a short break before heading over to Melbourne to perform a double bill of Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet at Chapel-Off-Chapel, which we're so excited about! In the midst of all this we're still doing lots of planning for our Edinburgh trip, and your support means so much to us. Thank you all so much.
