Raising money for the glioblastoma research organisation to support our friend Olivia
Dunedin, Otago
We are a group of 4th-year Otago University students running the Southern Lakes Half Marathon this May to raise funds for the Glioblastoma research organisation.
In october, our beautiful friend Liv was diagnosed with terminal stage IV glioma. Her diagnosis resulted in significant vision loss and required her to move to Australia to undergo intensive treatment.
Gliomas arise from the supporting tissue of nerve cells and are among the most common tumours of the central nervous system, accounting for 30–50% of all brain tumours. Brain tumours claim more lives of people under 40 than any other cancer, and glioblastoma is one of the most aggressive forms, with a median survival of just 15 months.
Watching Liv navigate this unimaginable journey has left us feeling incredibly helpless. Through this fundraiser, we hope to support ongoing research into treatment and diagnostics to help affected future young people, raise awareness of this devastating disease, and most importantly, show Liv that she is not facing this fight alone.
Any donation or support, big or small, means the world to us all. Thank you for helping us stand alongside Liv and support her fight.
