Help Our Athletes Get to Worlds!
We are a Christchurch based women’s Ultimate Frisbee club who will be competing in the World Ultimate Club Championships in Ohio, USA, July 2018!
Our $45,000 goal represents just about ¼ of our estimated costs for preparing for and competing at Worlds. While we are applying for grants/sponsorships, as well as running various local fundraisers, we are also relying on the generosity of our community to help us reach this goal! Please consider making a donation of any amount and amplifying your impact by sharing this page with your community!

Who We Are:
Our team, the ChCh Chicks, put together a group of hardworking, committed, and striving players to compete at New Zealand Nationals. These players trained very hard; working together as a team on tactics as well as fitness & skills training several times a week. These many months of discipline and teamwork paid off when the ChCh Chicks won gold at NZ Ultimate Championships 2017! This gave us the opportunity to represent New Zealand at the World Ultimate Club Championships 2018. This was our club’s aim and we are so thankful and privileged to have the opportunity to play against the best teams from countries across the globe. Chch Chicks has been competing in New Zealand since the first year of the women’s category in 2003 and despite a long legacy of high level performance, this is our first opportunity to send a team to World Championships.
What We Do:
Ultimate Frisbee is a fast paced, 7 a side field sport. It involves sprinting, jumping, and advanced disc skills. As important as these physical attributes are, there is something else that sets Ultimate Frisbee apart from other sports; the ‘Spirit of the Game’. This is a code of conduct as well as a set of rules designed for the sport to be self-refereed in an disputable manner. It encourages player integrity and creates a fair environment for all players involved. Everyone is accountable for upholding this code. This is seen at every level of Ultimate, and is what sets us apart from other sports.
Female participation in all sports, albeit of a high calibre, is not as highly partaken in as it could be. However in every corner of the world, Ultimate has proven to have a naturally welcoming environment which caters to every end of the sporting spectrum. At both a social grassroots level and the national competition level Ultimate is open and encouraging to female athletes. It truly puts the ‘Sport’ in Sportsmanship!
Why We Need You!
Unfortunately, with Worlds taking place in USA, New Zealand isn’t in an advantageous location as flights are set to be quite expensive. We feel that Ultimate has done, and will do so much, for women’s sports in New Zealand and that we shouldn’t be constrained by whether all our members can afford the costs of the main trip, as well as our lead up tournaments. Everything we do with Ultimate comes out of our own pockets, and we happily do so because we love the game and the community we are part of. However, our pockets only stretch so far and would really really appreciate any financial help that could come our way.
We’re estimating the cost per player at about $9,000. This includes not just the Worlds tournament itself, but also preparation trainings and tournaments; each of these events require hundreds of dollars per player for ground and air transportation, accommodation, food, as well as standard tournament fees. And when you consider that we’ll be sending over 20 dedicated athletes to the tournament, that cost grows quickly to quite a substantial number.
We feel that having a squad of players that deserve a spot on the team, not only those who are able to afford it, will continue our inclusiveness and reward hardworking teammates with this incredible opportunity to learn, grow, and pave the way for women’s sports.
We hope you will help us get to Worlds by donating today!
