Danika represents NZ in Junior World Series
Taranaki
As a little girl Danika has always had a passion to play sport, not just one sport but any type of sport. Since the age of 5 Danika’s long term goal was to play for NZ and represent her country with pride, at a young age Danika knew exactly where she was going in life. Danika was born and raised in the small suburb of Cannons Creek,Porirua, went to Te Kura Maori o Porirua a total immersion Maori school. As Danika grew up a lot of people thought she would go nowhere as Cannons Creek was not a place where kids go anywhere apparently, she also wasn’t going anywhere as she went to a school that didn’t speak English. When Danika was 8yrs old she moved to Taranaki with her family so they could try and better themselves. Danika started playing netball for her small Kura Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Ngati Ruanui, then onto a team made up of kids from the small town of Manaia, and that’s where it all began. She was selected for a numerous Taranaki Representative teams. Remember this young girl was not going anywhere as she grew up in Porirua, went to a school which didn’t speak English, moved to another small township and attended another total immersion school… But where is she now?? Danika’s dream has come true! She has been selected to play for her country! Danika will be representing NZ in the indoor netball junior world cup in South Africa, July 2017. Danika didn’t let negative comments in the decision of her upbringing, what school she went to or what language she spoke get in her way. Instead she used it to strive to get to where she is today.. For Danika to represent her country its costing a fortune and will need a lot of support. Danika does not come from a wealthy family or a huge town full of sponsorship. Danika and her family have been trying their hardest to fundraise anyway possible to raise these funds, which is hard when everyone in the small town is fundraising for their own achievements, when everyone is queueing up to get their spot on the community BBQ and every shop has been hit a million times from other potential kids trying to get where they have to go.
Please help Danika to not only make her family, iwi and Townships proud, but to make the whole of New Zealand proud.
