The 2017 Women's Lacrosse World Cup is being held in Guildford, England. Please help get me there.
Auckland
I have been selected into the NZ U19 Womens Festival Team competing in the Festival Tournament alongside the Women World Cup. We will be playing against teams from England, USA, Canada plus others.
I am from Auckland New Zealand, and am now begining my University studies at Auckland University. I have been playing lacrosse since I was in year 9 at High School. I got into the sport through seeing it being played in movies and various people around school with the equipment. I am now in my 6th year of playing the sport I love. I was a finalist the ASB Young Sportsperson of the Year Awards for Lacrosse in 2014,15 &16, wining the award in 2015. I was part of the NZ U19 Team who placed 5th at the 2015 U19 Womens Lacrosse World Cup.
I was in my school’s Premier Girls Lacrosse team for the 4 years. I was Team Captain in 2015 and 2016. I train for lacrosse nearly every day of the week. Whether it be for school, club or Auckland regional training, NZU19 Womens trainings or my own type of training where I practice skills and fitness.
Even though lacrosse isn’t a major sport in NZ, it is becoming more and more popular as more people start to play it. It’s a sport that keeps you on your toes and physically active all throughout the game. A game of pure enjoyment and adrenaline that is very fast paced, aggressive and energetic which I absolutely love.
Budget
Lacrosse does not receive any Corporate or Government funding from within NZ, which therefore means that each player has to fund themselves. Any fund-raising will be used to cover our training camps, coaches, flights, accommodation, uniforms and equipment. This comes close to $7000 each, so any amount of support from anyone is greatly appreciated.
Over the course of my trip as well as the lead up to our departure, I intend on keeping you all updated and in the loop with how everything is going and the progress I am making with my fund-raising and training by posting photos and creating short blurbs.
Thank you
I cannot begin to explain how grateful I am for the support I already have and the support I hope to gain, especially from my parents. They have provided an immense amount of support all throughout my years of lacrosse - coming to all my games and helping with the money side of things, I would not have been able to do any of it without them and I can assure you that it is one of the best feelings knowing that everything you’ve done has paid off.
